1. Article: Extraordinary Leadership Development

I found myself many, many miles away from anything that closely resembled ‘normality’ in my life and, at the same time, was surrounded by 150 young smiling, laughing Kenyan children who, for some explicable reason, all seemed delighted to see me……

Allow me to explain….. For a number of years now I’ve been working as a coach in leadership development; running various programmes for teams and supporting individual leaders in their personal and professional growth.  So when Nigel Linacre and Jefferson Cann of Extraordinary Leadership invited me to join them on the Extraordinary Leadership Journey in Kenya as a participant, I wondered whether perhaps it was time to walk my talk…..?
Before I knew it the day had arrived when I was meeting with my fellow journeyers at Heathrow Terminal 5. All of us were in good spirits (or perhaps we had the ‘I don’t know what’s coming but I’m going to put on a brave face’ sort of feeling).  Some hours later we arrived at Nairobi airport, and then set off on a 3 hour mini-bus trip to the Blue Post Hotel in Thika where we would base ourselves for the programme. Next morning we took the 20 minute mini-bus journey to The Summit Schools where we were welcomed by 150 young smiling, laughing Kenyan children who, for some explicable reason, all seemed delighted to see us…….. Singing and dancing……dancing and singing…. The welcome ceremony performed by these children marked the beginning of one of the most awesome experiences of my life!
Click here to see some short video clips shot ’on location’ in Kenya recording the personal and leadership learning that myself and my fellow journeyers experienced.
So, a question for you…… How long has it been since you last really tested yourself as a leader? Is it time perhaps that you ‘walked your talk’? Time for you to review the depth of your leadership? If so, then you’d be very welcome to join Nigel Linacre and I on the Extraordinary Leadership Journey to The Summit Schools, Kenya on 23rd – 28th June ’12Contact me if you’re feeling up to the challenge!

2. Article: New Leadership Forum for Exploring the Link between Personal & Professional Transformation

My Dutch friend and CTT trainer colleague, Sander Mahieu, and I have decided to create an opportunity for business and community leaders, coaches, consultants and other change agents to come together to explore the linkage between our personal and professional transformational journeys……

Through reflecting on and sharing my own life-learning after the unexpected death 3 years ago of my 24 year-old son, Paul, and the impact that this learning has had on my professional life, I’ve realised that when it comes to life-changing events or moments then actually we can all learn from each other. To realise the collective potential of this shared learning will require some ‘means’ whereby our unique, individual life-lessons can be recorded and shared. To enable people to do this, and so that we can learn from each other, we have decided to create a new Leadership Forum.
This new Leadership Forum will take various forms – including online forums, face-to-face events and the writing & sharing of short articles that record and share each individual’s story and learning.  The Forum will be very accessible; and will be open to any business and community leaders, coaches, consultants or other change agents who want to get involved. More details will follow in due course as it emerges…….
In the meantime, if you have had a life-changing moment or event that’s had an impact on the way that you work, then please consider writing a short article (3,000 words max) that tells your story…… You may find, like me, that the very act of recording your story actually brings masses of new learning to the surface!  And – once written – if you’d like to share your story then drop me an email.

3. Book Review: ‘Create a World That Works: Tools for Personal & Global Transformation’ by Alan Seale

I’ve studied with Alan Seale as my coach trainer and spiritual teacher for a couple of years now, and have been deeply impressed with his work.  When he published ‘Create a World That Works: Tools for Personal & Global Transformation‘ a few months ago, I realised that one of Alan’s real gifts to the world is his ability to convey deep spiritual truths in a practical, usable way.

Alan has been a thought-leader in the realm of personal development and coaching for many years.  ’Create a World That Works‘ now places him front and centre in the creation of new paradigms of leadership, service, and coaching for those who are committed to making a significant difference in the world. Through this new book Alan invites us into new ways of thinking and being in service of something larger than ourselves.  He opens the door to intuitive thinking and guides us how to “show up” to life and leadership in our greatest and most authentic personal presence. He shows us how to live, lead and serve in ways that inform and inspire more enlightened and effective action, creating a world that works for today and tomorrow.
In his Introduction, Alan say’s ‘We live in a time that calls us to claim responsibility for our lives and the creation of our world in ways never witnessed before.  If we are to thrive as a human race, we must chart a new course. We must seriously consider what it would take to create a world that works.  What would that world look like? How would life in that world be different? If we are the bridge between all that has been in human history and all that is yet to be created, what kind of bridge are we?’  Powerful questions indeed!
